Now for a little background info:
In 2013 ENV founders Daniel Del Toro and David Purser set out to create a board using some pretty alternative materials never even considered in the surf industry before, Mycofoam. Finally after two years of research, development and strong collaborative effort between ourselves and Ecovative Designs, the world’s first Mycofoam (mushroom) surfboard was born aptly named Surf Organics the “El Portobello”. While the board surfs well-enough and the material is strong the issue was weight. However, our persistence and determination to use this material in some way paid off we were offered a new material from Ecovative they called Mycoboard. Head designer Danny Del Toro instantly imagined a fin made out of this mycoboard material him having made fins out of several different materials before (i.e. bamboo, wood,…) he gave it a shot and these are what he came up with.
ENV was founded in 2015 in the wake of the first Mycofoam (mushroom) surfboard the “El Portobello” realizing that a mushroom board was going to be to difficult to mass produce we opted to manufacture only gold level ecoboards at our factory. As a team our goal is to provide the highest quality eco-friendly surf craft without sacrificing performance. We are certified by Sustainable Surf as ecoboard shapers and glassers, we have had honorable mentions at the 2015 Boardroom Show for Best Use of Hemp and innovative designs. we also plan to keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the realm of ecoboard manufacturing.
Our construction method and material lists are simple:
